14 Aug 2026 - Stephen and Cath went out this morning to water all the planted seedlings in the regen area. Only about 3 looked a bit worse for wear, which was great news. Thank you Cath and Steve, your help is very much appreciated! (photo)

9 Aug 2026 - SCAGI will have the 2026 AGM at Aurora Cottage at 2pm.

Thank you all, for attending and for your apologies.

Amanda Brooks arrived all the way from Orford, at Quentin's invitation to give the 13 of us a presentation on Cat Management in Tasmania. Her practical experience and knowledge of trapping over 100 feral cats over the past years was valued by all. The practical showcase of setting the trap for best results was one of the highlights.

Thank you Amanda for a great presentation and the example of your Cat Management Plan for the Orford Bird Sanctuary, the Decision Guide for Stray and Feral Cat Management in Tasmania 2025, and a recommendation for a Wildlife Camera

The AGM agenda and election outcome was prepared by Neridah, she chaired the meeting and Kerryn read out the Presidents Annual Report 2026 AGM Meeting 19 - by Quentin.

Daniel Steiner was elected President following Quentin's standing down after 10 years of being the driving force of SCAGI. Neridah continues as Secretary, Melissa is taking over as Treasurer, Ben is Public Officer and Quentin and Peter D are the new Committee members.

Thank you all for your commitment!

The General Meeting followed under Neridah's guidance, she endeavours to send the minutes out when completed to the attendants and apologies.

Following the procedures we enjoined to socialise and savoured the delicious contributions from every one with a well deserved drink. (Photos to follow)

1 Aug 2026 - SCAGI Tree planting day - 9am at the boom gate in Champ St. (245 Champ St - Google maps)

please bring protective gear and your favourite tools for planting if you can.

supported by Landcare Tasmania TLF Plant Grant 25/26

A big thank you to all who could make it, and to the apology replies. The morning tea was the biggest spread yet deliciously prepared by Kez, Melissa, Cheryl and Kath. Cheryl kept replenishing her water tank to give the 150 young trees a good start. The rest of the crew were Jane our new member from Macquarie St, Steve, Peter Dane and Ben with their cherished horticultural experience. Neridah organised the whole tree planting including the grant application and organised the seedlings through Mark Lawrence and Daniel transported the stakes and protectors from Hobart. It was a great effort and done and dusted by lunch time.

The new biodegradable protectors we used are a bit tight for the larger seedling trees but will definitely be a great improvement on the cor-flute plastic ones (Mallee Tree Guards) from the past which created a huge problem with breaking down to micro plastic in a short time.  (photos)

14 Jul 2026 - Neridah distributed to the SCAGI membership an updated version of the NRE Tasmanian Government - Volunteer Manual.

4 Jul 2026 - Our working bee was well attended  with Garry joining us, Quentin, Kez, Steve, Kath, Neridah, Jane, Melissa and Daniel mainly attending to trees by replacing many deer damaged protectors and replacing them with re-cycled wire protector inherited from Todd at NE Bioregional Network. The delicious cake and morning tee was prepared by Kez and Melissa. Thank you all for your contributions. (pics)

Thank you Jane for disposing the failed cor-flute protectors at the Bicheno tip.

24 Jun 2026 - We heard from Madeleine & the Wild Island Team that their "Threatened Species Project" was able to raise  $5829 for SCAGI.

6 Jun 2026 -  We had a good productive working bee today with 9 people in attendance in lovely sunny weather. Cutting and pasting gorse, weeding the trees, and replacing damaged tree guards near Champ Street.

Thanks to all who came along and helped and those that apologised for being unable to attend.

Rob told us that David Quon had won the 1st price of the BODC art competition yesterday.

We congratulate David on his great achievement.

There have been deer and sheep in the conservation area causing more damage to the trees.

Again we had to remove many damaged and broken tree guards. There are still a lot of tree guards to be collected and trees to have wire guards put in place where the deer have caused damage in the NE section of the conservation area near the swamp.

PWS Ranger David Adams joined us for coffee and the lovely morning tea of cake and scones prepared by Kez.

Thanks to Kez for her wonderful scones and all the effort she continues to make for SCAGI. David told us of plans to put more bird signs in the area and plans to educate the community about the shore birds. (photos)

Attendees: Peter Dane, David Quon, Paul Peacock, Steve Myers, Cath Sranton, Robin and Samantha Kelman, Kerryn and Quentin Smith

19 Jan 2026 - The next Break O Day Council meeting will be at 10am next Monday the 19th of January.

At the meeting there will be discussion about the motions NEBN put forward and passed at the Councils AGM in December 2025.

The motions are related to increased resources for a weed officer and animal control officer (domestic and feral animals), protecting Future Potential Production Forests and addressing a range of coastal development issues including strata titles, tourism accommodation, scenic protection, subdivision and storm water.

It would be appreciated if as many people as possible could attend the meeting to show the Council the community wants better protection and management of Break O Days natural environment and scenic beauty.

15 Jan 2025 - Daniel updated the Landcare Annual Membership Form and applied for the Landcare Insurance for 2026

15 Jan 2025 - Daniel spent 3.5 hrs weeding thistles near the culvert at Templestowe St.

3 Jan 2026 - Daniel completed and submitted the Annual Information Statement for ACNC - Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.

3 Jan 2026 - The first working bee was postponed to February as it fell so too close to the New Year holiday period.
